Client Objectives: The site plan incorporates a "fresh air school approac" to learning, recognizing that children learn as well outside as indoors so the design cultivates a relationship with the outdoors as a first step in environmental stewardship. Children's curiosity and nitiative take the lead in investigation intentionality designed outdoor spaces to stimulate:

  • Vestibular and kinesthetic experience
  • Gross and fine motor development
  • Experience the physics of gravity
  • Face to face practice in social negotiation, perspective-taking and language

Play areas composed with natural and constructed play elements for progressive special sequences:

  • Grass with mint a chamomile
  • ASTM and ADA play value standards
  • Natural Materials: plants, sand, wood
  • Deciduous trees for summer shade and winter sun
  • Dwarf trees to play under: mulberry and willow
  • Dramatic vegetation: bamboo, Canna lilies and bananas
